Ui + Ux Design / Yoga Flow App Design
I’ve been interested in Ui and Ux design for a while now. I took a couple online courses a few years back, and every now and then I play around with the various app ideas knocking around my head. Yoga Flow is one of them.
When I started practicing Yoga a few years back, I wanted an app like this and couldn’t find one. I just wanted a library of yoga positions, so I could select the ones I wanted and semi-automatically create a routine that would flow together reasonably well. I have a bunch of features in mind that I’d love in an app like this, and I had a lot of fun designing it. It was mostly an excuse to explore Ui and Ux design, though I genuinely would like this app to exist. Is there one out there that comes close? (Or is there a coder out there who would like to make one with me? XD )
Graphic Props / Replica of Ludwig's Prison Escape Map from The Grand Budapest Hotel
I've had some empty wall space in my room for a while now, and wanted to fill it with something that represented my love of graphic design, illustration and film. So I decided to recreate one of my favourite hero props, from one of my favourite films. Lots of fun to make, I love all the little details, and I'm happy to have improved on the blank wall situation (even if the frame I bought is slightly too small)!
Ballpoint Illustration / Paper Penguin
Part of my ballpoint origami series! As per usual, click through for extras if you’re curious!
Comic Lettering / Ocean City and Jumpsuit Johnson
For the past while, I've been part of the team @rogue_comics_ir , working with Colm Griffin ( @artofcolmgriffin ) on the Ocean City series, and upcoming book, Jumpsuit Johnson. Gill ( @gillzebub ) has been a wonderful editor along the way too! I love working with text and images, so comic lettering is always a pleasure. These are some of my favourite panels; bringing SFX to life on the page and making it feel part of the scene is so satisfying! 😊 All artwork is Colm's.
Digital Illustration / Bubbles Sweetshop
This is part of a series of storefronts I'm working on at the moment, inspired by my friends and family. In this case; this little sweetshop is for my brother, who has a very sweet tooth and always seems to have a selection of sweets to share! I taught a workshop based on this illustration, so if you’re curious about my process, take a look below!
Ballpoint Illustration / Paper Fox
These days, I just want to focus on the little things that make me happy. Like ballpoint pens and sketchbooks and origami animals. 🧡
Graphic Props / Antigone Funn's Enbalming Fluid
I had a lot of fun designing and illustrating these! I've loved the Wooden Overcoats podcast for years, and recently started listening from the beginning again. I really wanted to bring a little piece of Piffling Vale to life, so just for fun, I made myself a little bottle of Antigone Funn's Embalming Fluid - with a fresh Clementine and Cinnamon scent of course! - and a few little Funn Funerals business cards.
Digital Illustration / The Road to El Dorado
"If it's any consolation, Miguel, you made my life an adventure. // If it's any consolation, Tulio, you made my life rich."
Graphic Props / Library Card inspired by Matilda
Needed a bookmark, so I made myself a little old school library checkout card.
Digital Illustration / Foil, Arms and Hog
I've been watching lots of Foil, Arms and Hog lately, while playing around with illustration styles…
Graphic Props / Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
"This time she found a little bottle on it, ('which certainly was not here before,' said Alice,) and round the neck of the bottle was a paper label, with the words 'Drink me' beautifully printed on it in large letters…”
Digital Illustration / The Emperor's New Groove
Kuzco the man, Kuzco the llama, Yzma, Kronk, Chicha and Pacha
News / Really Rotten Rhymes - Written by Gabriel Fitzmaurice and Illustrated by Alice Coleman
I’m delighted to share the news that Really Rotten Rhymes - the first children’s book I’ve had the opportunity to illustrate - is now available to pre-order!
Graphic Design / 2018 in Book Covers
In January 2018, I got a new job as a book cover and general graphic designer with Mercier Press, a publisher based in Cork. I have always loved reading and books and design and art and typography, so this job has been a wonderful experience so far. For over a year now, I have loved exploring ideas and capturing stories through images and words, and I love pushing my skills a little bit further with every new project that comes my way. So today, I wanted to celebrate some of that work, by gathering some of my favourite covers from 2018. Keep an eye out for them in bookshops!
News / Heroes and Villains at The Crawford Art Gallery
I am absolutely delighted to be part of the Heroes and Villains exhibition in the Crawford Art Gallery in Cork City.
Comic Lettering / Ocean City
Towards the end of last year, I was delighted to join Rogue Comics as a lettering artist for a comic series called Ocean City. Created by Colm Griffin, the comic tells a coming of age story about a boy "learning about the past, dealing with loss, and finding out where he fits in the world."
News / The Clockmaker has been selected for Dingle Animation Festival 2018
I'm delighted to share the news that my graduation film, The Clockmaker, has been selected to be shown at the Dingle Animation Festival this year!
