Graphic Design / One Curious Chip by Alice Claire Coleman

It's my birthday next week, and with that, I'll be celebrating 9(!) years of OneCuriousChip! So here's a little advert I designed for myself and what I do: graphic design and illustration, or dearadh grafach agus léaráid, as Gaeilge.
.
I wear many hats in my work, which makes it hard to sum up what I do in one image. I work with both traditional media, and in digital spaces. I like working with organic shapes, and more technical styles. I care about sustainability moving forward, and nostalgia for the past. I pull inspiration from my culture and my background. And most of all, I care about stories. That's a lot to pack into just one graphic. And I think I did it.
.
There are textures in here pulled from a notebook my great grandmother Máire was given on her 21st birthday (100 years ago, almost to the day!). There's a pocket watch, to reflect the one my grandad gave to me before he passed away, and gears to reflect the fact so many of my family are technically and mechanically minded, which influences my work too. There are illustrations of plants I added to my back garden last year, to reflect my fondness for nature and living sustainably. I included both English and Irish, to show my fondness for language, and for this beautiful little corner or the world.
.
Finally, this project also makes me feel very grateful for good friends and the creative process in general. Swipe across to see how this graphic developed: I thought I'd finished it a few times, but I kept talking through it with a designer friend, and it kept improving as a result (thanks so much @thegenericdesigner ! I appreciate it!).
.
All in, this little graphic feels like home. And I'm happy with that.
